Frequently Asked Questions
📋 General Questions
No. While we are headquartered in Penang, we serve clients throughout Malaysia — including Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Perak, Kedah and beyond. All our services are delivered remotely, securely and efficiently. Distance is no barrier to great accounting.
We work with MSMEs and growing businesses across virtually every industry — F&B, retail, construction, e-commerce, manufacturing, professional services, property management, trading and more. We tailor our approach to the specific compliance requirements and workflows of each industry.
Absolutely. Startups benefit enormously from getting their financial foundations right from day one. We offer flexible, scalable packages that grow with you — starting lean and adding services as your business complexity increases. Many of our longest-running client relationships began when those businesses were brand new.
We communicate fluently in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Cantonese. We believe that accounting advice is only useful when it's clearly understood — so we always explain in the language and terms that work best for you.
Yes, absolutely. Our services are modular — you can engage us for a single service like payroll or e-Invoicing setup, or combine multiple services for greater coverage. We will build a package that matches your specific needs and budget. There is no obligation to take everything.
📚 Bookkeeping & Accounting
Bookkeeping is the systematic recording and organisation of financial transactions — every sale, purchase, payment and receipt is entered, classified and reconciled. It keeps your ledgers accurate and current.
Accounting takes that structured data and interprets it: preparing financial statements, computing taxes, identifying trends, advising on cashflow and supporting strategic business decisions. Think of bookkeeping as the input, accounting as the insight.
For most clients on monthly retainer plans, we update books weekly or monthly depending on transaction volume. High-volume businesses (e-commerce, F&B, retail) often benefit from weekly reconciliations. We will recommend the right cadence for your business during the consultation.
Yes — and it's one of the most common situations we encounter. We offer catch-up bookkeeping to reconcile, correct and tidy months (or even years) of backlogged accounts. One client had two years of messy books; we cleaned everything up in just under a month. The sooner you start, the less painful the process.
We work with a range of popular accounting software including AutoCount, Bukku, QuickBooks, SQL Accounting and others commonly used in Malaysia. If you already use a specific software, we'll adapt. If you're starting fresh, we'll recommend the best fit for your business type, volume and budget.
Always. You retain full access to your financial data at all times. Outsourcing your accounting to us does not mean handing over control — it means having an expert manage the process while you maintain full visibility and ownership of your business's finances.
👥 Payroll, EPF, SOCSO & PCB
Yes, completely or partially, depending on your needs. We can handle the full payroll cycle: calculating gross and net pay, computing EPF (KWSP), SOCSO (PERKESO), HRDF and PCB deductions, generating payslips, and submitting all contributions on time. We can also prepare annual E Forms and EA Forms for each employee.
We can manage all staff changes — new hires, resignations, promotions and salary adjustments — as part of our ongoing payroll service. Just notify us and we will handle the appropriate pro-rated calculations, statutory registration updates (EPF/SOCSO) and documentation.
Late EPF contributions can attract a dividend penalty of 1% per month plus possible prosecution under the EPF Act. Late SOCSO contributions carry similar financial penalties. By outsourcing payroll to us, submission is tracked and processed well within the monthly deadlines — protecting you from these avoidable costs.
🏛️ SST (Sales & Service Tax)
We align invoicing and transaction processes with RMCD requirements, prepare accurate bi-monthly SST returns, and maintain audit-ready documentation. We also proactively review SST rate classifications and exemption eligibility.
Generally, businesses with annual taxable turnover exceeding RM500,000 are required to register for SST. Specific thresholds apply to different categories of goods and services. We can assess your situation and advise on registration obligations — and assist with the registration process if required.
Penalties under the SST Act 2018 can include fines of up to RM50,000 and/or imprisonment for wilful non-compliance. Late payment of SST attracts a 10% penalty on outstanding amounts. Accurate, timely filings are non-negotiable — and exactly what we ensure for every client.
⚡ e-Invoicing (LHDN MyInvois)
Yes, Malaysia's e-Invoicing mandate is being rolled out in phases. Businesses with an annual turnover exceeding RM100 million were required to comply starting August 2024, followed by those with RM25 million+ in January 2025, and RM5 million+ in July 2025. Finally, all remaining taxpayers with turnovers of RM1 million+, must comply by January 2026. If you haven't started yet, it is urgent that you begin.
Absolutely — this is one of our core services right now. We handle everything: LHDN MyInvois account registration, accounting software configuration and integration, invoicing workflow design, staff training, and ongoing compliance monitoring. We have helped businesses of all sizes get fully compliant and operational quickly.
Several Malaysian accounting software solutions support LHDN MyInvois integration, including AutoCount, Bukku, QuickBooks, SQL Accounting and others. The right choice depends on your business type, transaction volume and existing workflows. We'll recommend and set up the most appropriate solution for your situation.
Businesses that fail to comply with the e-Invoicing mandate face fines ranging from RM200 to RM20,000 per offence, and possible prosecution under the Income Tax Act. Don't delay — contact us for a fast, hassle-free implementation.
💰 Pricing & Costs
Pricing depends on transaction volume, complexity and the services required. Many small businesses start from a few hundred MYR per month. We provide a clear, fixed-scope quote after understanding your specific situation — no hourly billing surprises, no hidden fees. Contact us for a customised proposal.
For most MSMEs, yes — significantly. A full-time account clerk in Malaysia costs RM1,700–4,000+ per month in salary alone, plus EPF, SOCSO, annual leave, sick leave, training and the risk of errors. Outsourcing to TaxPenang gives you a team of experienced professionals for a fraction of that cost.
Never. We quote clearly and stick to the agreed scope. If the scope changes — for example, you add a new entity or significantly increase transaction volume — we will discuss it transparently before any changes to fees. You will always know exactly what you are paying and why.
